I secretly hate my friend. What can I do?
Hey everyone, This requires a bit of a background/story: My friend and I grew up together (known each other since I was in the 3rd grade, and he in the 4th). We are now 21 years old... been friends for 13 years. We had a very healthy friendship and never fought up until a year ago. The beefy drama of the story is: in my senior year of high school, my other real close friend slept with my girlfriend of 8 months. Obviously I was a lil bit upset for a year or so. After I was over it all, I was once again friends with the "traitor" and things were fine. However, during all this, my best friend would tell me almost daily that "he would never do anything like this" to me and that "I could rely on him for anything and everything" etc etc. About 6 months ago, I found nudes of that girlfriend, as well as many of my other friends ex-girlfriends, on his computer. The one of mine was very obviously when we were dating. Since then I have secretly hated him, and yet loved him. He has no idea that I know, and still pretends he'd never do anything like that to me. I almost constantly hear of rumors that he's banging one of my ex's some more, or simply having sex with a different girl every week. According to him, he never even talks to these girls who are making the accusations. I've seen proof that that's a lie. He's also become an alcoholic over the last year and personality wise has changed a lot. He talks to me like I'm a dog or an unwelcome guest even at my own home. I would love to confront him, but I'm almost certain it would completely destroy our friendship for a long while at least, and also do a lot of damage to our "circle" of friends, who are all very tight-nit and would end up having to choose him or me. I hate guilt, so I would inevitably leave the group and that would suck. I cannot say that he actually "hates" me nor do I "hate" him, but I'm tired of him talking to me like he does while I know all of these things about him. I try very hard to be quiet about it for the sake of the group, but I almost constantly think about it and it tears me to pieces some days. So, I'm hoping someone has been in a similar situation and if so how they handled it. Is there any safe way of going about telling him this stuff? I have proof of it all, although I did stumble upon it on accident. I was searching his computer for porn so I could post it as his desktop background for lols, but instead found all the nudes. Thanks for help in advance A few additional things: We have NEVER fought before. That's why its so hard to approach him about this. I'm confident that it would be very difficult for us to get past. Also, don't lecture me about "high school bullshit is bullshit". I don't give a damn about the ex-girlfriend thing. This is a trust issue. It's one thing to be blatantly betrayed by a friend. Its another for him to go behind your back for years.
