Should textbooks be rewritten to promote gay lifestyles?
Here's an article from today's Santa Cruz Sentinal. http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/archive/2006/May/14/local/stories/01local.htm My question is this: How do they decide which historical figures to include? Are they all ones that were known to be gay during their lifetimes? Do their descendents, if any, know? Would this constitute posthumous "outing" for some? It's not like black history, where a photograph can tell you. There's also the issue of moral teaching in the schools, but they've already settled that in favor of the ultra-liberals, at least in California. But what about the people with moral objections? Do they get to speak out? Seems to me there are some real uses for closets . . . it's called privacy, folks! In using the term "promote gay lifestyle," I did not mean promote gay orientation or behavior. I meant the LIFESTYLE issues; going to gay bars, marching in Gay Pride Parade, being out-of-the-closet gay. That, I think is more about politics than about sex, and that is what I object to. It gets people stuck in the identification, and rips the door off the closet, so they cannot go back to being private about their sexuality.
