Can Google's AdSense For Youtube Make Money For Your Website?

Adsense Gold Google has recently introduced Adsense for Youtube with much fanfare, but it's not really the gold rush that some bloggers and other Internet entrepreneurs were hoping for. Here's a look at what Google's AdSense for Youtube is, and whether you can use it on your own website to make some extra money.

It's Not Youtube Ads.

Alas, Google is still only letting certain YouTubers (the ones with millions of hits a month) make serious cash from ads that display at the bottom of the video. Adsense for Youtube isn't that. Instead, it lets web designers make money by placing specialized YouTube players on their pages. The players suggest videos for the website's viewers to watch based on keywords from the page or other settings decided by the webmaster. This is most useful for blogs and other websites where such content-driven websites.

You Need A Certain Type of Audience.

In order to use Adsense for Youtube on your own page profitably, you've got to know your website's audience. Will they object to the sudden introduction of videos that will, at times, seem to be somewhat random? Will they actually watch the videos? Will they click on ads? For quite a lot of websites, the answer to these questions is a resounding "no"; it's hard to get that type of viewer on the Internet. Exceptions might be celebrity sites, gossip sites, or tech blogs, but you've got to take time to carefully preen out irrelevant videos and channels that might push viewers away from your website.

It's Less Profitable Than Google Ads.

For most websites, it'll be far more profitable to simply display Google Ads on the side, bottom, or top of each page, especially blogs--you'll get more clicks on such ads, which will lead to greater profits, and the pay-per-click is usually much higher, depending on the subject. The good news is that you can try both and see if your website does a sudden profit 180 from the addition of AdSense for Youtube, but the bad news is that it probably won't. It'd be better to see widespread distribution of Google's Youtube Ads program, so that all Youtubers can start to make money off of their videos, but in the meantime Adsense for Youtube is a nifty, very specific tool that some web designers can use to generate a bit of extra cash. Just don't expect the wheel reinvented.
