Can Meat From This Type of Cow Really Help You Lose Weight?
Introduction: I don't know about you, but for me I am constantly reading about diets and ways to drop off a few unwanted pounds. I am always on the lookout for new information hoping for some easy miracle pill or solution will come along that I can do and the weight will just fall off with no effort and I can look like Barbie in no time. Well, seeing as how that is pretty unrealistic, I figure I will just study more about healthier ways to eat and work on it the right way. I came across an article talking about how important it is to get your meat from certain kinds of cows and thought it was pretty informative. So, I decided to share some of these facts with you guys who are on the quest for healthier ways to eat as well.
The Main Ingredient
Did you know that fat from a certain type of cow can actually help you lose weight? It has to do with a fatty acid called Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). The definition given by Wikipedia says CLA is a family of many isomers of linoleic acid (at least 13) found in meat and dairy products of ruminants. CLA is also a very beneficial trans fat. It has been known to aid in fighting cancer, diabetes and reduce body fat while preserving muscle tissue. According to a study done in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, they say they have proven that this type of fatty acid does in fact help people lose weight. In the Meta analysis, it found that people who took 3.2 grams of CLA a day dropped about 0.2 pounds a week! That's an average of about one pound a month. It doesn't sound like a whole lot, but I will take what I can get at this point! CLA has become famous in a supplement form among those who body build or the constant dieters.
BEWARE!!! The Source!
There is a catch to this wonderful new discovery. You can't just down a handful of CLA supplements. Those who take CLA in supplement form are very likely to get side effects such as; increases in blood levels of C-reactive protein, lipoprotein and leptin (signs of heart disease). Another is an increase in insulin resistance like type 2 diabetes. The reason for these side effects? CLA supplements are not in its natural form. You are not getting the fat naturally or in proper balance. The ABSOLUTE BEST way, is to get it from grass-fed beef. Grass fed animals have three to five times more CLA than grain fed animals. Therefore, if you are interested in getting this fatty acid in its purest most nutritional form, then make sure you get it NATURALLY. Also, dairy products like raw milk, raw butter and raw cheese from grass-fed cows are another great source for CLA. In closing, it obviously matters where we get our meat and supplements aren't always the way to go. I hope this information has been helpful to you.
