One of the simplest things you can do to start earning some money from your website is to install Google Adsense. But there are some criteria you need to meet before Google will accept you into their program.
Adsense is free to join but Google will reject sites devoted to drugs, pornography, or gambling. They will also reject personal pages, sites with excessive advertising or other content-targeted or text-based ads, incentives for clicking on the keywords (this one could get you banned permanently), profanity, or hate of any sort. You should read Google's Program Policies before you apply.
Basically, if you have a site that offers worthwhile information, you'll be able to sign up with Adsense.
What's cool about Adsense ads is that they're contextual. That means that Google analyses the content of your webpage and decides what ads to display. You can specify a list of web addresses to ignore so that your competitors' ads don't appear on your pages, but that's the only thing you can control besides the size of the ad blocks and their colors.
So you've been accepted into Adsense - now what?
There is an art to making Adsense work for you. Books, audio interviews and video tutorials have all been created to help webmasters to Adsense wealth. So how do you know which are the good ones are which are duff?
Up until very recently, I ran 3 websites (I own more now) which pretty much ran on autopilot, Yes, there was work involved in creating them but they're about things I enjoy so it wasn't "work" work, if you get my drift.
A couple of years ago I tried sticking Adsense on them. I made, maybe, a few dollars a month. I didn't really know what I was doing with Adsense or how to use it properly. Just like most people.
Then I came across some resources that taught me how to implement Adsense successfully. It took some time but the bottom line is that I make about $600 each month from just those 3 sites. And I spend only a couple of hours each month on their upkeep.

You don't need all of them but you do need at least one of them to start you on the road to Adsense profits (it's actually pretty simple once you know how!).

Google Ad-sense TOS question?
Does google adsense watch over my youtube videos? Would they know if someone said "Click on this ad it helps me out"?

My Google Adsense Account Shut Down. How do I get it back up?
My Adsense account was shut down with little detail. Google said it was disabled because "It poses a risk of generating invalid activity".
This is odd because I have never once clicked on an ad on my YouTube videos. However I have watched my videos and seen a few of the video adds that appear at the start (Still never clicked one) . Could this have triggered the disable and if so how do I get my account back?
@Jake Yea I actually have seen some increase in views and a few spikes but this is just my Youtube channel growing.
